Did you know one in every three bites of the food we eat depends on bees for pollination? Whilst beekeeping is a relatively small industry; many may not understand just how vital bees are for the environment, playing a crucial role in the agricultural sector.
Despite being significant to maintain healthy ecosystems, bee populations are under threat. With habitat loss, pesticide poisoning, intensive farming practices and climate change causing a decline in bee populations globally, it’s more important than ever to protect bee colonies.

We are saddened to advise that Abdul Hakim, a Macmahon employee in Indonesia, died in an accident at our Batu Hijau gold and copper project on Friday 23 April 2021.
Bapak Abdul had worked at Batu Hijau since 2019, initially as part of the dry season works team, and then as a truck operator.
Fatalities always have a tragic impact and, in this case, Pak Abdul was a husband to Ibu Lis, and father to two young children, Nail (9 years) and Naila (5 years).
We extend our deepest sympathy and ongoing support to Pak Abdul’s family, friends and work colleagues.
Macmahon will contribute to a fund to support Pak Abdul’s family, and encourages employees who would like to assist to make a personal donation to the same fund. Donations can be made by:

In the lead up to Christmas, Macmahon’s Sustainability Specialist, Marie-Louise ter Beek took the opportunity to support #OneSecond, pledging at least one second hand item for Christmas and encouraged friends, co-workers and family to commit too.
This year, the World’s Biggest Garage Sale is asking Australia to take #onesecond to think about their purchasing habits for the holidays. Imagine the impact if every Australian committed to purchasing at least one of their gifts second hand, and even more, if they knew their loved ones would be equally enthusiastic to receive these gifts.
