Luke Gangell, Project Planner
Plant Department - WAC
By trade, Luke Gangell is a Mechanical Engineer and currently fills the role of Project Planner with Macmahon in their Reliability Department in Perth.
Luke has had a number of roles with Macmahon. He originally joined the company to undertake vacation work in 2013 whilst studying his degree at University. During his nearly six years with Macmahon, Luke worked his way up from Vacation Student Engineer, to Plant Coordinator and to his current role as Project Planner.
During this time, Luke participated in a Classified Plant training course, Caterpillar Electronic Technician course and reinstated his first aid and CPR certification.
Macmahon’s Michael Spires, Inventory and Systems Manager, has been Luke’s mentor since Luke’s vacation days. Michael provided key learnings including the building blocks for a strong work ethic. “I’ve learned from Mike to never say no to a challenge and when someone asks for a hand, to always say yes”, said Luke. “This approach has allowed me to grow and learn new aspects of the business and has also enabled me to help out colleagues and grow strong relationships”.
“Macmahon provides a solid support network and I really enjoy working with my team mates. The company has developed a culture where everyone is willing to go above and beyond to help each other. On a personal level, it’s important to me that Macmahon provides a range of resources for all employees to help with personal and professional challenges. I also really enjoy the strong emphasis on physical and mental health that the company places on everyone.”
“Since I started working at Macmahon I’ve learned to never be afraid to ask for help, whether it’s due to uncertainty or advice. The team at Macmahon are experienced and approachable professionals who provide a great deal of comfort to me in my role and have enabled me to gain a wealth of knowledge in my six years with the company.”
After hours, Luke embraces the opportunity to socialise with friends across a number of departments and also plays football and roller hockey with two of his work mates. Luke is an avid traveller and has visited more than 17 countries to date. He also has a passion for working on cars and loves attending Australia’s largest runway annual drag racing event, Racewars in Albany. One final fun fact, Luke can solve the 3d puzzle invented in 1974, the Rubiks Cube!
