Project Manager, Byerwen
Dave Scott’s mining career spans many years and includes roles at various coal and gold mine sites including Kidston Gold, Porgera, Newlands Coal, Coppabella Coal, Poitrel Coal, South Walker Coal and Saraji Coal.
He joined Macmahon in 2014 as the Mining Manager for Christmas Creek 2 and has since project managed our Tropicana site and is currently the Project Manager at Byerwen coal mine in Queensland, working a 5/2 DIDO roster.
With as much experience as Dave has, he’s well placed to compare mine sites and rate his experience at Macmahon. Dave says “People are still treated as people and not numbers at Macmahon. I appreciate that all levels of management in the business are accessible to all employees, which is unique these days.”
The Byerwen project is fairly new to the Company’s project portfolio and Dave is relishing the opportunity to work on a new Greenfields site. “I love that I get to be involved in this project where we are building everything from the ground up.”
Over the past four years Dave has developed and honed his negotiating skills and welcomes advice from time to time from Macmahon’s CEO, Mick Finnegan. Dave also thinks he has gained more patience but considers not all his workmates would agree!
Appreciating the diversity of Macmahon’s workforce, Dave shared “I’ve gained so much local knowledge on cool places to visit from all the folks I’ve worked with.”
On Dave’s RDO’s, he enjoys fishing and camping or on occasion he’s not adverse to glamping. Interestingly, in his earlier years Dave used to train horses, one of which placed second in the national championships for dressage.
